France : Focus on Lebanon in Douarnenez Film Festival

2008 sees the Eu-funded Med-Screen teaming up with the Douarnenez Film Festival, based in Brittany (France), which is hosting its 31st festival to take place from 16-23 August 2008.

The Festival focus this year is on Lebanon, with audiences being invited to take a different look at this small state situated on the faultline between the East and the West. Events will include roundtable discussions and debates. Renowned Lebanese filmmakers Ghassan Salhab and Rania Stephan as well as video artists Lena Merhej and Maher Abi Samra will be attending the festival to present their films.

The Lebanon based Med-Screen is supporting 15 recent feature films, shorts and documentaries among an extensive selection of films. The films that are to be screened at the festival and that will benefit from the support of Med-Screen are:

Feature Films: The Last Man by Ghassan Salhab, Falafel by Michel Kammoun, and Caramel by Nadine Labaki.

Short Films and Videos: Posthume by Ghassan Salhab, Smoke on the Water by Rania Stephan, Terrains Vagues by Rania Stephan, Lebanon / War by Rania Stephan, Juste une Odeur by Maher Abi Samra, Welcome to Beirut by Fouad El-Khoury, Ashura: Blood & Beauty by Katia Saleh, Empreinte 1 by Nadim Asfar, The Blue Sea inside Your Eyes by Dima El-Horr, and La Marche Turque by Ziad Antar.

Documentaries: Mots d'Après Guerre by Anouar Brahem and Beirut Diaries: Truth, Lies and Videos by Mai Masri
