Hy Ruth, I agree with you: multiculturalism entails the respect of diversities that are increasingly characteristic of modern societies. Yet, often the term “multiculturalism” is a source of misunderstandings. Tensions between groups are not just linked to culture but arise from inequalities linked to power and roles in society, i.e. arising from race, gender and class differences.
